Rannerdale is both an independent sponsor and the private investment vehicle for its founder’s family. As an independent sponsor, Rannerdale identifies, pursues, executes and manages private equity transactions in the lower and middle market. As an investment vehicle, Rannerdale commits a material amount of its founder’s family capital to each transaction.

The firm takes its name from Rannerdale Knotts, a hill walk in England's Lake District, a place of extraordinary natural beauty and, importantly, a happy place for Rannerdale’s founder, David F. Browne. David visited Rannerdale on an all-time great family vacation during his time in the United Kingdom with Terra Firma.

David’s leadership role at Terra Firma was the most recent in a series of private equity positions that have seen David work in diverse geographies, across industries, with equity- and credit-based approaches, and for funding models varying from traditional LBO fund to alternative asset manager to family office. Throughout his career and life, David has prized intellectual honesty and rigor, alignment, good humor, and straight dealing.
